This source was a longer biography and went into more depth
on his life. I told how he became a citizen and what his family’s occupations were. The process of formally accepting him took place in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. Girard moved easily into his new status; in becoming an American, he also pledged an oath of allegiance to Pennsylvania. In doing so, he gained other favors that benefited him financially.

This source also was a biography of Stephen Girard. It gave me an overall look of who he was and what happened with the controversial will of his.
Surprisingly, in the case of a man as successful and influential as Girard, he is remembered nearly 200 years later primarily for the will he left at his death. Yet, that controversial will was but the final act in a long series of philanthropic activities.

This source was a timeline of the population of African Americans and the important dates that led to segregation and race issues. It told me that in 1968 U.S. Supreme Court lets stand lower court ruling Girard College must desegregate.

This source was helpful because it gave me examples of other schools that were in the same predicament as Girard College in all different locations. Practically, the policy operates to admit students without any Hawaiian ancestry only after all qualified applicants with such ancestry have been admitted.

This source helped me because I listened to an audio of Girard College and what went on at this event. It also told me how Girard College changed views of many organizations. During the civil rights movement, many institutions changed their admissions policy. Girard College in Philadelphia, admitted its first black student after a lengthy court battle

This site helped me because it gave me examples of short stories and songs that people wrote about what was going on in their time. He not only participated in protest, such as the demonstration regarding the segregation of Girard College, but also encouraged his congregation to be conscious and involved in challenging the status quo.

This source helped me understand and learn the purpose of Stephen Girard’s will, how the money was spent and who the money was left to. Stephen Girard wanted his money to build a school to foster the prosperity of the City, and the health and comfort of its inhabitants.

It gave me references to brief biographies and websites that could lead me in to more discoveries of research.

This source gave me a very brief biography on Stephen Girard and his accomplishments. It helped me realize who he was and how he is known. He bequeathed his fortune to social-welfare institutions, including Stephen Girard College for male orphans.
